“having read my first cormac book i now think less of cormac mccarthy fans fatherhood and irony. irony irony irony. how egotistical and self-obsessed these readers must be... i don't think anything happened beyond reaping the consequences of raising a child the only way you know how. that cannot be put back. imo there was something greater here at work and it was implicated in the miraculous coincidences leading to their survival/numerous interactions with other people/allusions to communities how ironic is it that the father's attitude prevented the boy from being saved sooner. and yet you can't blame him. that's how i see it.”

“reads like fetish content for shock factor. saved by meta aware ending crazy reach similes: 'words like a box of blank papers.' 'words smelling of detained humidity.' 'words... like pieces of glass melting in extreme heat, like ravens pecking out eyes in slow motion.' lol i actually hate wrote a review midway through the book because i was so annoyed at what we deign to consume in popular media these days, but i imagine it's really not that different from the past. classics are immortalized for a reason and we forget the trashy sensationalist pieces because they lack any substance to be remembered by. anyway the following is what i wrote: reads like fetish content. impractical, one-dimensional, poorly executed limbless pregnant woman? in what world is chopping and cauterizing the arms and legs of a pregnant woman at all practical. not to mention this entire industry of harvesting human meat. lab grown meat, hello? all animals are dangerous so we killed them all. ecosystems, hello? i know we are offered some half-assed government conspiracies of population control to explain away all this, but it's so juvenile i have to laugh the entirety of this book focuses on industrialized cannibalism without contributing even a modicum of commentary. overfeeding, milking, castration, rape. okay, let's suppose these detailed illustrations are actually a meta attempt at some larger message. this would be more convincing if any message at all existed outside of graphic depictions. this dude's kid that died that we don't care about? yes, it's so sad so let's go have furious exhibitionist sex in front of another man while my barren wife is away and probably going to kill herself. also, i have a slave woman at home with the mental capacity of a child that i raped and got pregnant. did i mention she's white? what's more disappointing is for a woman writing this book she so poorly writes off women as nothing more than props. props who exist to serve some greater purpose relating to men. they're either sad or horny or pregnant, and always submissive except when it serves some sexual fantasy. it's like an ao3 fanfic written for shock factor that managed to get published. the little tidbits of moral dilemmas we are fed are nothing more than unconnected afterthoughts if you're going to base your writing on an upheaval of society i expect more thought and research put into this complete restructuring of morality other than blaming the government bogeyman and one-dimensional individual struggles. humans cannot be taught language after the age of 7. lots of thought and research put into industrial killings though. we can see what the author was really interested in it's fine though. not everything is supposed to be some kind of literary masterpiece. the popularity of easily consumable slop has always been around. i just hate to see it touted as anything higher”
